The history of the college creation

The history of creation of Establishment of education « Gomel State Polytechnical College» carries us in far post-war period of 1946, when  the Council of Ministers BSSR  considering necessity of fast development of the wood industry, has made the decision to open timber technical school in Gomel. The first steps of the young institution were difficult.

Under decision of the Council of Ministers the timber technical school on May, 24th, 1946 has been formed.

In 1958 it has been reorganized in technical school of wood processing , and in 1960 since July, 4th by the order № 383 Ministries of the higher, specialized secondary and vocational education was renamed into  Gomel State Polytechnical School.

Since September, 17th, 2007 school is reorganised in Establishment of Education " Gomel State Polytechnical College ".

Gomel today is the second largest city in the republic, the political centre of inter-regional communications of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine with the developed industry, science and culture.

In our city great attention is paid to training of specialists of various branches of science, culture and manufacture. In seven higher educational institutions about 35 thousand students are trained and annually 5 thousand receive diplomas of young experts. 

EE "GSPC” was founded in 1945. In its structure it has two educational buildings, industrial practice workshops, 34 classrooms, 12 educational laboratories, 6 computer classes, educational computing center, 2 gyms, a library, an assembly hall, a medical aid station, a hostel for 370 people, located at : Gomel, str. Kiseleva, 6 (near railway station).

 As of 01.12.2009 the college enrolled 1,466 students, including 580 (40 %) on the correspondence courses.794 (54 %) Of the 1466 students enrolled on a fee basis.

The teaching staff comprises 73 people, including 27 people (38 %) have the highest category, 25 people (34 %) have the first category, 11 people (15 %) have the second category, 10 people (13%) without category. 

The plan of admittance of students is carried out. In 2007 it has been executed on 1053 %, in 2008 on 104,5 %, in 2009 - 105,5 %.

 Percentage of distribution and employment of the college graduates in the dynamics was: 2006. - 82%, 2007. - 95%, 2008. - 98%, 2009. - 94%

We have employment contracts for graduates of college till 2015.

 Contracts with universities of the Republic of Belarus on continuous training of college graduates on the reduced program are concluded for all college specialties. Dynamics of the number of college graduates that entered universities on the correspondence and day form of training is as follows: 2006. - 38%, 2007. - 41%, 2008. - 72%, 2009. - 65%.

In college considerable job on a computerization of educational process is done. The local computer network is created, all branches and the cyclic commissions are computerized, there are 125 computers, one computer per 11 pupils is used in educational process.

The college has its own Internet site located at www.ggpt.gomel.by, distant training is used on correspondence courses, computer testing in subjects of a special and professional cycle is introduced.

The establishment of education conducted training for Vietnam, Afghanistan, Algeria, Guinea, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Laos and Mongolia.

The establishment now has the opportunity to teach foreign citizens. Admission on training of foreign citizens (except those specified in paragraph 3 of this Regulation) according to the international contracts of the Republic of Belarus, including interdepartmental character, is made by college in coordination with the Ministry of Education.

Admission is provided on training on the terms of payment of the foreign citizens residing in Belarus on the lawful bases and having necessary level of the previous education, is carried out on the basis of the contracts concluded by college with foreign citizens or their representatives in which except the conditions established by the legislation, the responsibility of the parties under the payment of expenses in case of sending of the foreign citizen from Belarus. Foreign citizens are accepted on training if they have medical certificate about the state of health, confirming the possibility of training in climatic conditions of the republic that was given by the official body of public health services of the country from which the candidate for study has arrived. Foreign citizens arriving for study are enlisted in college after the passage in territorial organizations of public health services defined by college, the obligatory medical examination confirming the absence of contra-indications to study in the Republic of Belarus.

Necessary condition for admission of foreign citizens on training is the presence of the passport or the document replacing it, the corresponding visa and the contract of the obligatory medical insurance, issued in an order established by the legislation of the Republic of Belarus.

 - For foreign citizens on the basis of the general base education till July, 29th  .

- On the basis of the general secondary education till August, 6th .

- For foreign citizens and people without the citizenship, accepted on training on the terms of payment - till October, 1st.
